A tune-up is the cheapest way to avoid the expensive call. Most breakdowns we get called to in January and July were preventable — dirty flame sensors, weak capacitors, plugged filters, low refrigerant. An hour of maintenance catches them before they leave you without heat or AC.
What a tune-up covers
- Furnace: clean and inspect burners and flame sensor, check heat exchanger, test safety controls, check gas pressure, inspect venting, replace or clean filter, full cycle test.
- Air conditioner: check refrigerant level, clean condenser coil, test capacitors and contactor, check electrical connections, flush the condensate drain, full cycle test.
- Heat pump: both of the above, plus defrost cycle and reversing valve check.
When to book
Furnaces: early fall, before the first cold snap. Air conditioners: spring, before the first heat wave. Booking in the shoulder season means you’re not waiting behind everyone’s emergency calls — and neither are we.
